Chiriqui Panama: Take a Minute and Enjoy

12/04/2010 By Panama Eric

(Panamagringo)  The Chiriqui province in western Panama has been growing steadily over recent years as one of the hottest travel destinations in central America. Chiriqui boasts a breathtaking mixture of scenery from tropical forests to astonishing mountains and rivers and soft sandy beaches. You can find a plethora of activities in Chiriqui Panama to suit any traveler from the cuisine aficionado to the outdoor adventure enthusiast.

Chiriqui is located in the western region of Panama nestled between the Pacific ocean and Costa Rica. Their climate and soil here is ideal for farming which probably explains their Internationally award winning coffee and growing agriculture industry. In Chiriqui panama it seems that there is always something to do. You could attempt to climb Volcan Baru, which is panama’s tallest mountain, or you could check out some of the several resorts and spas such as the Panamonte Inn & Spa in Boquete. There are several upscale Inns and lodges in Chiriqui as well as many eco-resorts and hostel type cabinas for the traveler on a serious budget. If you decide to stay a while in Boquete Tammy’s Restaurant comes highly recommended for its middle eastern fare and Pollo a la Lena (roasted chicken). We also recommend you try one of their burgers as they are probably the best you will find in the Boquete area.

Chiriqui Panama is another one of Panama’s little known treasures. Those passing from Panama city to Costa Rica often leave it behind without stopping to take in some of the beautiful landscapes and rich culture. I recommend doing the opposite. Stay a while. Relax in the mountains, hike through the jungle and eat fresh shrimp on the beach. You will definitely thank yourself later.

Chiriqui is also a great place to get a good beer, or to retire.
