Warehouse store in David: Song Depot

02/26/2011 By Boquete Guide

(Boquete Guide)When I discover a new resource in the region I get excited. A Member of Boquete Ning suggested he did some real bargain shopping at store I had never heard of, Song, in David. Song, is located almost directly across the Interamericana from Chiriqui mall, home of the ATTT, the place you pay traffic tickets, so it was easy to find.

I was in great anticipation of this non membership warehouse shopping experience as I entered and saw an almost empty store. I wondered why. Song has only been open since September. they appear to be a true warehouse operation with more space devoted to storage of food than to retail. I suspect they supply Mini Supers in the David area.

I went shopping, on first observation things seemed about the same as El Rey with a few exceptions. They price in units and offer a dscount for quantity. With the discount most prices are a few pennies lower than Rey.

These are unit prices.
Ligo Corn 15 oz can Rey $1.05 Song $1.01
Ramen Rey $0.31 Song $.22
Five pounds of 95% whole grain rice, Rey $2.59 Song $2.50

I did see coffee was very low compared to Rey where this same 450 gram bag was more than $5.

If I needed quantity on most items Price Smart is less expensive. However Song has more items, much more like a large Supercentro Ivan, but only the food and liquor part. It is not a place to buy fresh meats, vegetables or fruits, but for canned goods and non perishables it is worth a look.

Bottom line, I might go back, but I do not buy enough to justify the stop in a normal week. If I had a large family or restaurant I would check them out.
