Panama has installed scanners in post offices to combat the international trafficking of drugs, Post Office Director Jeslena Corro announced Tuesday.
“We’ve found packages which have had as many as 25 kilos of drugs,” the director said.
So far this year, post office officials have found 15 packages containing drugs, with a combined value of $3 million. That amount is expected to increase once the scanners are installed.
The drugs were mainly being sent to European cities.
