Panama street vendors say sales up from last year

11/04/2010 By Panama Eric

(prensa.com)Street vendors who were hard at work along the parade routes in the city on Wednesday said that sales were much better than last year.

Verónica Martínez, who was selling soda, meat and cassava from a mobile stand, said she made a lot of sales during the morning.

Hot dog vendor Marta Salvatierra also reported strong sales, and said that she hopes the trend continues through the rest of the patriotic festivities this week.

Last year, heavy rains washed out the sales of many vendors on the first day of the patriotic festivities. But this year was mostly dry for the two parades, on Vía España and the Cinta Costera.

Authorities from the Ministry of Health were patrolling both parade routes, on the lookout for health code violations.
