(Prensa.com) The authorities of Panama this morning seized 2217 kilos of cocaine in the province of Colon on the Atlantic coast of Panama, said the National Naval Service (Senan).
The large cargo was discovered in the framework of a monitoring operation when he was carried by four Colombians in a speedboat 45 feet long in an area of beach known as Cocle del Norte.
The drug was hidden in a plastic tank, properly packed in the boat, in order to mislead the authorities.
According to Panamanian authorities, during the procedure, foreigners responded with fire triggering a shootout between drug dealers and naval air units culminating in two Colombians wounded.
The injured were taken by agents of Senan Manuel Amador Guerrero Hospital in the city of Columbus, which is located 80 kilometers from Panama City.
Panamanian territory is frequently used by international drug cartels and Mexican Colombians to transport illegal substances into the U.S. market.
