Panama residents march to protect forests in the capital

11/01/2010 By Panama Eric

(prensa.com)Residents of the reverted areas in the district of Ancón, organized a march yesterday, Sunday, to demand the protection of forests in this sector of the capital.

The rally was held amidst the parade celebrating the anniversary of the township.

With signs in hand, residents paraded and denounced the possible replacement of Act 21 of 1997, which approves the land use plan and conservation of the catchment area of the Panama Canal.

According to the protesters, the replacement of that law would allow for the destruction of what should be retained and developed in an orderly manner in this area of the city.
