Panama police seize 140 kg of cocaine

04/01/2011 By Panama Eric

(Xinhua) Panamanian police seized 140 kg of cocaine in the port of Cristobal in Colon province, said National Police Director Gustavo Perez on Thursday.

The drugs were found inside 28 boxes on a boat en route to Mexico from Colombia, said Perez.

He also said there were altogether 15 people on board, including two Panamanian nationals.

International drug cartels in recent years have increasingly used Panama as a transit country to ship narcotics into the United States.

Last year, the country’s security forces seized a total of more than 80 metric tons of cocaine.
