Panama City streets promised to be clean by the end of week

10/31/2010 By Panama Eric

(prensa.com)Municipal waste agency Dimaud has collected 11,700 tons of garbage in the last nine days, significantly reducing the backlog that had been sitting in the streets of many neighborhoods.

Dimaud Director Harmodio Montaner said that the agency had been collecting an average of 850 tons of garbage a day in the District of Panama, but that has been increased to 1,300 tons a day to reduce the amount of uncollected trash.

Workers will continue this pace through the holidays this week, which the director hopes will mean that all of Panama’s streets will be clean by Nov. 7. The agency had hoped to be caught up by Tuesday, but will not meet that deadline.
