(SBC Americas) The Gaming Control Board (JCJ) of Panama has authorized the Hipódromo Presidente Remón to offer online horse race wagering when the racecourse resumes activities on October 1. The Panama City facility is also adapting its current shops for in-person betting in order to follow the health protocol.
Manuel Sánchez, executive secretary of the JCJ, said that “the national government is helping modernize the horse racing sector, something that is needed.” After completing the registration process, users will be able to bet on national races. In addition, the racecourse will allow international bets.
“Around 7,000 workers from the horse racing industry are ready for activities to launch on October 1. Without betting there’s no races, so we’re taking the necessary steps along with the Ministry of Health, we’re visiting shops where it will be allowed to bet, but people won’t be able to stay there, they won’t be able to sit,” he added.
The Presidente Remón racecourse also revealed that it carried out a drill on August 21, where the authorities established that they complied with all security measures set by the Ministry of Health.
“The national government and the horse racing authorities from Panama have done a great job. The industry complies with all the biosecurity measures, but in case they fail to do so, we will proceed with the Ministry and we will suspend the races, because the most important thing is to safeguard the health of Panamanians, employees and the public,” added Sánchez.
