Controversial Law 30 to be repealed

The government has decided to repeal Law 30, the controversial act that introduced labor and environmental reforms, and propose articles of the law on an individual basis for approval.
The news was announced yesterday by Deputy Minister of Labor Luis Ernesto Carles at a meeting of the commission that was created to examine Law 30 and suggest possible reforms. President Ricardo Martinelli also confirmed the decision.
The commission had been working for three months on examining the bill, and was facing a Saturday deadline for submitting its recommendations. But union leaders and government officials were far apart on many issues, and it was clear that those recommendations would not be ready.
Martinelli has decided to introduce six new bills to the National Assembly that will replace the Law 30 reforms. These will be an aviation, criminal code, labor, environmental, police and public law.
The labor law will include the same topics currently being discussed by the commission.
