(Prensa.com) September begins construction of new lock gates which will be the Panama Canal, the Pacific and Atlantic.

The manufacture of the first slide gates is done in the shipyard Cimolai SpA Italian manufacturer in Pordenone, Italy.

According to German Zubieta, in this process is important to ensure compliance with design specifications. According to plan, he said, he expects the first four gates are delivered within a year (approximately August of 2012).

“There is a plan of work that needs to be developed,” added the manager.

The design of the gates was made by the company Iv-Infra, a division of Netherlands-Iv-Groep.

With a total weight of 3 000 285 tonnes, the first gate to be manufactured intermediate measure 30.2 meters by 57.6 meters long and 10 meters thick, and be located between the middle and upper chambers of the locks on the Atlantic.
