Enjoying various places to eat in Panama has always been one of my favorite outings. Restaurants like Jimmy’s, in the San Francisco neighborhood, keep me coming back time after time and are always a sure bet for good food and cold drinks. A meal for two at Jimmy’s can range from $20 upwards of $80 depending on what is ordered. I usually manage to keep it around $40. Jimmy’s serves loads of grilled meats and seafood like many other places to eat in Panama; however, its atmosphere, friendly wait staff, and quality of food set it above the rest. When ordering in Jimmy’s, take the time to look over the “entradas” or appetizer menu. They have a wonderful array of Greek treats like tzatziki, grilled cheeses and fresh tandoori naan. The “pulpo al carbon” or grilled octopus comes served on a sizzling iron fajita style platter which can be drizzled with butter and lime juice (which I highly recommend).
Jimmy’s is known for its delicious cuts of beef which are often hard to find in Panama considering the grazing conditions for many of their cattle. The top dog of the menu, what I call the Jimmy Special (but actually believe is named the “Angelo Especial” or something close, is easily one of the thickest, most tender, and flavorful pieces of beef I have ever consumed. Having lived in Texas for years this statement should hold great value. It is stuffed with fresh garlic cloves, seared and served on the same fajita style iron plate with loads of fresh butter on the side for extra flavor at your desire. It is always accompanied by a choice of baked potato, puree potato, steamed veggies, rice, or fries and a small side salad. It is well worth the $14.95 to have a taste of American steak house in Panama City. When considering places to eat in Panama, Jimmy’s has something for every taste. It is located close to the Sheraton Hotel on Calle 3 and avenue 5sur en Panama City. Call (507) 226-1323 for reservations.
