(prensa.com) The Chucunaque River in the province of Darién reached its highest level yesterday, Sunday, which put local authorities on alert.
Ronald Checa, Director of the National Civil Protection Service (SINAPROC) in that province, confirmed that the entity has in fact declared a category three alert in the community of Lajas Blancas, although the town has not yet flooded.
However, the nearby community of El Salto was not so lucky. Local authorities have advised residents of this community to move to higher and safer places to avoid becoming further affected by the flooding.
Meanwhile, the community of Yaviza has also received a preventive alert for possible flooding.
Heavy rains were registered for several consecutive days in the mountainous region of Darién, which has caused the water level of the Chucunaque River and its tributaries to rise significantly.
